The training was organised by the Centre for Housing and Sustainable development, to develop skills in leadership, through grants application and cluster management. It was directed at the research leaders of the 8 ARUA clusters and their members. It held on Thursday, 8th of November, 2018, at the Research and Innovation Office, University of Lagos
The training commenced with a brief opening remark by Prof. Timothy Nubi, who is the Founding Director of the Centre for Housing and Sustainable development. He spoke about the lunching two ARUA centres, of which their report has been posted in the world university journal. He stated the purpose of the training, which was to enhance leadership skills; in order to facilitate planning for the forth coming year.
This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Taibat Lawanson; the Director of the Centre for Housing and Sustainable development. The presentation was on the structure of the Centre of Excellence in Urbanisation and Habitable Cities. She highlighted a slight change in the structure, which changed from 7 to 8 clusters.
Thereafter, the training commenced with a presentation by Professor Folasade Ogunsola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Service) of the University of Lagos. She provided a complete guide on how to apply and handle research grants. She encouraged cluster members to see grant opportunities as competition, and thus put in their best efforts in applying and securing grants. She also urged them to uphold integrity and to be prudent in the handling grants when obtained.
The training continued with a second presentation by Prof. Wellington Oyibo; the Director of the Research and Innovation centre, University of Lagos. His presentation which was on managing research centres/hubs, explicated the purpose of research centres, what they ought to achieve, and how they can function effectively.
